A SPLASH OF RED

Flanders Poppies in my garden at night
Red is my favourite colour in all its many hues. To me it represents passion and happiness and it is said to increase enthusiasm, stimulate energy, to bring good luck and fortune. There's nothing like a splash of red to brighten ones day!

Lou's Shed

My friend Louise is queen of the collectors. She has taught in International schools in many countries, cruising the markets and antique shops in her spare time, picking up many treasures. She has always loved the history that goes with her pieces and even has the first cot she slept in as a babe as well as her pre-loved toys and mothers and grandmother's kitchen items. She has an eclectic mix of household items, toys, laundry items, books and boxes, bottles, music, hats, ethnic art and more........so much more...... she has had to build a shed to house it. I had a wonderful time recently checking out collectors heaven and sparking memories from my youth.

Another web site to check out if your into collections is
This is a really quirky site where Lisa Congdon has posted a collection a day for a year.

I've got the blues

The Colour blue evokes thoughts of sea, sunshine, indigo textiles, japanese tea cups, willow pattern crockery, cornflowers and forget-me-nots, denim jeans, ink, sapphires, Lapis Lazuli, French windows and doors, blue moons, portuguese walls, music and spanish nights. It can be calming or electric, azure or cobalt and a multitude of other hues. It has a wonderful effect on me, often causing a sigh of pleasure.

Butterfly Bliss

Up in north Queensland in the town of Karanda is a wonderful butterfly house  www.australianbutterflies.com
Not only do you get the experience of being surrounded by the fluttering beauties (an extra buzz if they land on you!) but they also have a laboratory that houses their breeding program complete with nursery. They have the famous Blue Ullysus Butterfly, their turquoise blue stunning! Sadly they make very poor models, never sitting still long enough!!
The Cairns Birdwing butterfly on the other hand showed perfect model professionalism posing lazily for close-ups.
The macro wing photographs look like abstract paintings. Ahh nature... don't you just love it!!

The Caravan of Life

"caravan of life" Collage by Zeb
On our recent Victorian jaunt we headed down Foster way in Gippsland where lives an old friend, Zeb.
Being an art therapist zebarttherapy.com.au she has a house full of colourful objects. This collage of a caravan is one of my favourites.
Aluminium head by norma Larsen
She also is a lover of my mothers art. She seems to have scored extremely well!!
Especially in the sculpture department!! These two pieces look fantastic in her garden.

More pics from the peninsula

A friend's father did this summery painting. It really lit up the room!!
His name is Guy Wilkins and you can find more of his vibrant paintings
on his website guywilkinsart.com  Guy sounds like a real upbeat, happy character who has a strong love of colour, nature and life. His website is a delight.

Fitzroy Eye Candy

I spent the day wandering around Fitzroy (Melbourne) in particular Gertrude street. It's full of interesting arty shops all very individual in content. The street and alleyways are full of colour and textures that excite the senses. I bought a great little book on the urban alphabet from www.artisan.com.au The book by Simon Jennings presents "a treasure trove of type forms that can be found in our everyday lives" I am now enthused to seek out my own examples...so watch this space
