Cruising the Peninsula

We've got lots of old friends on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula..........all with interesting lives and creative spirits. Their houses are filled with lots of eye candy and I did much oohing and aahing over their treasures and surrounds. Here's a few pics.......

Cheeky birds

We are tripping around Victoria at the moment and these cheeky birds were perched on the veranda rails at the classic old hotel we were staying at. It seems Cockatoos will eat anything including flag poles and flags.

Printscharming

The girls from printscharming, Cath and Kirsten, have been a real inspiration to me.......in creating prints, embroidery and blogs!!! I visited their studio/shop late last year and was totally blown away with the colour and vibrancy of their space. They design, screen-print and embellish their own fabrics and also give amazing looking creative workshops (bookings being taken now) and have published an inspirational print book..
For more inspiration visit their web site printscharming.com.au
And if your ever in Sydney visit their studio.......its fantastic!!

LUMINOUS LANTERNS

A couple of years ago we went to the Mahbili festival on the shores of lake Jabiru in Kakadu National Park.
It is a celebration of indigenous culture featuring Aboriginal dance, food, music, basketry, crafts and spray-can art. Scattered throughout the trees were the most magnificent paper and cane lanterns of huge proportions. They were all animals native to the area, superbly decorated with traditional earth tones. As dusk fell the lanterns were lit giving a gorgeous luminous glow to the site.

finally finished

Inspired last year when visiting the printscharming.com.au studio and buying their new book on print, I screen-printed and embroidered this flower. It's the type of project that you can pick up put down and keep adding to. I am still considering doing some running stitch around the outside edge but for now I am calling it finished. Screen-printing is a joy...by using a simple paper stencil you can produce multiple prints quickly with a professional finish.
You can also print on paper and use the prints for colouring-in projects, cards and wrapping paper.
