DRESSED TO IMPRESSS

I've seen knitting graffiti adorning trees around Sydney and Melbourne but never crochet. These examples were in Gertrude St, Fitzroy and really caught my eye. The contrast of the white crochet ( I'm guessing they were old table cloths) against the tree trunks and green leafage was superb.

WHAT'S THAT BUZZ

Driving through central Victoria I came across this fantastic collection of pastel coloured bee boxes, alive and humming with thousands of bees. It was what I call "the perfect installation piece"! A large paddock, bordered by a dark forest which was a perfect backdrop for the gorgeous colours of the boxes.

Something about them reminded me of the work of Australian assemblage artist Roslalie Gascoigne

Song birds

I've noticed around the shops there are quite a few mobiles being made out of paper and pieced together with machine stitching. I think these are being made in Nepal. Ever on the lookout for new projects I made one for myself out of old music manuscript paper (the thicker the better) and a bird design for the motif. Instead of the machine stitching I used some linen thread, running stitch and knots to give it a bit of texture and hung a big crystal bead on the bottom for weight. It looks quite charming hanging in my house.

After photographing the mobile inside I took some outside shots....dodging the wind.....not good when taking pics of a paper mobile but......... ohhh the shadow shots against the mud brick wall were very funky!

PESKY POSSUM

Australians have a love/hate relationship with possums, they look so cute (especially with their babies clinging onto their backs) and have such cheeky personalities. However they can scare you witless with their blood curdling growl/screech and decimate your garden overnight. This little Brushtail Possum brat scampered up under the veranda one night.

Belated Easter eggs

I always feel incredibly privileged when I see bird eggs in the wild. It doesn't happen very often but when it does it's special. These 2 gorgeous specimens were laid by a Pied Oyster Catcher on the south coast of NSW. As you can see, not much of a nest, just a small hollow in the sand. They are endangered in NSW so tread carefully.
